Postural Qigong
After postural analysis, ergonomic suggestions and Postural Qigong stretches are recommended for patients to maintain the improvement made with MPT. Without this extremely important step, the existing postural compensation will tend to re-establish the problem because the muscles are being used incorrectly and tighten up again.
Postural Qigong stretches
- Gently stretch the muscles in the direction of restriction, alternating with relaxation
- Utilize breath and imagery
- Engage the involved muscles with a gentle, isometric contraction in the opposite direction of the stretch
A small number of Postural Qigong stretches are recommended at any given treatment visit. Each Postural Qigong stretch is repeated only 3-6 times, and is repeated multiple times per day (preferably every few hours). This process re-educates the muscles involved without overuse.
